Announcement
October is here, and we have a little change of plans to share. We’ve decided not to put our house on the market right now. With the selling market in Huntsville being so tough, it makes more sense for us to stay put. That means we’ll be here through the winter and spring for sure. We’re looking forward to settling in, enjoying the season, and seeing what these next few months bring.

Make October a Month of Small, Healthy Choices
October can feel like a fresh start. Cooler mornings invite cozy routines, while shorter days and fuller calendars may call for a little extra attention to your well-being. You do not need to overhaul your life to feel good this season. A few consistent habits can help you enjoy autumn with more energy and less stress.
Start with one or two of these October health tips, then build from there. The best routine is one that fits your actual days, not an idealized version of them.
Get Outside While You Can
A brisk walk is a simple way to move your body and enjoy the changing leaves. Try a 15-minute stroll at lunch, a weekend hike, or a walk around the block after dinner. If you spend much of the day indoors, stepping outside during daylight hours can also help you feel more connected to the season and uplift your spirits. Walking in nature takes it to a higher level where you can instantly feel grounded.
As temperatures drop, dress in layers so you can adjust as you warm up. Watch for wet leaves and uneven paths, and choose shoes with good traction. If outdoor plans fall through, a short stretch or movement break at home still counts.
Keep Sleep on Your Calendar
Shorter days and changing schedules can make evenings feel rushed. Protect your rest by aiming for a consistent bedtime and wake-up time, including on weekends when possible. Give yourself a wind-down window: dim the lights, put away work, and choose something calming, like reading or a warm shower.
Adults generally need at least seven hours of sleep each night. (new studies out show women feel better with more sleep than that) If you regularly struggle to sleep or wake up feeling exhausted, consider having a biofeedback session to see where the stressors are and help release them.
Build Meals Around Fall Favorites
Seasonal produce makes it easier to bring variety to your plate. Apples, pears, squash, sweet potatoes, and hearty greens are delicious in simple meals. Roast a tray of vegetables to use throughout the week, add greens to soup, or pair sliced fruit with yogurt or nut butter for a satisfying snack.
You do not have to make every meal from scratch. A practical goal is to include produce, a source of protein, and a satisfying whole grain or other fiber-rich food when you can. Keeping a few easy options on hand makes that choice simpler on busy October nights.
Drink Water Even When It Is Cool
It is easy to forget about hydration when you are no longer reaching for an icy drink on a hot day. Keep water nearby during work, errands, and outdoor activities. Unsweetened tea or warm water can be appealing when the weather turns chilly.
Let thirst guide you, and pay attention to how you feel during exercise. Your fluid needs vary with activity, climate, and individual health. If a clinician has given you specific guidance about fluids, follow that advice.
Make a Plan for Seasonal Illness
October is a good time to check whether you are up to date on recommended vaccinations, including the annual flu vaccine. Ask your healthcare professional or pharmacist which vaccines are appropriate for you. Everyday habits matter, too: wash your hands regularly, cover coughs and sneezes, and stay home when you are sick when possible.
As gatherings move indoors, opening a window when practical or improving ventilation can help freshen shared spaces. If you have symptoms or a higher risk of complications, seek personalized medical advice.
Create a Calm, Comfortable Home Routine
Well-being is not only about what you do; it is also about how your space supports you. Clear one cluttered surface, set out a blanket for a quiet evening, or make time for a screen-free break. Small cues can help you slow down after a busy day.
If you enjoy using Young Living essential oils for their aromas, a brief diffusion session can be part of that cozy routine. Follow the product directions, use the diffuser in a ventilated space, and be mindful of children, pets, and anyone sensitive to fragrance. An inviting scent is a personal preference, not a substitute for sleep, medical care, or other healthy habits.
